2020 Estate Pinot Noir

Vineyard: The River Road Ranch vineyard is located within the Russian River Valley AVA. The soil composition is Cortina, characterized as deep, well-draining soil composed mainly of gravel/sandy loam. This fast-draining soil leads to stressed vines that focus their energy on the grapes rather than leafy growth, resulting in more intensity and concentration. Certified Sustainable in 2017 (CCSW)

Vintage: The 2020 vintage enjoyed near-ideal conditions through Spring and into Summer. However, in August, a series of dry lightning storms brought significant challenges to the region’s vineyards. Careful attention was given to picking decisions and fruit processing to ensure the quality of the grapes remained uncompromised. All Trione fruit was harvested successfully and produced incredible depth of flavor and structure.

 

Winemaking: Traditional techniques using open top fermenters and manual punch downs were implemented. To accentuate the fruit component, we ferment with twenty percent whole cluster. The components are a selection of clones 777, 667, 114, 115 and UCD37. Each clone brings to the blend its own distinct characteristics. The 777 clone adds pronounced Pinot Noir aroma, good color and a very silky texture, 667 is bright and aromatic, 114 is super fruity, 115 lends good color and acid, and UCD37 is bold and full bodied.
