2018 Sparkling Brut

Vineyard: The River Road Ranch vineyard is located within the Russian River Valley AVA. The soil composition is Cortina, characterized as deep, well-draining soil composed mainly of gravel/sandy loam. This fast-draining soil leads to stressed vines that focus their energy on the grapes rather than leafy growth, resulting in more intensity and concentration.

Vintage: The 2018 harvest began in earnest the second week of September, which is considered normal in most years, but for the past three or four harvests it would seem late. A moderate summer, leading to a moderate fall weather pattern allowed for full flavor development across all varieties.

 

Winemaking: This wine is composed of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes that co-fermented during primary fermentation. The base wine saw a short time on oak before it was treated in a Charmat sparkling wine method.
